HTM 301
Association Participation at the Hard Rock hotel
HSMAI & MPI - Speaker Sue
This association event was held by collaboratively HSMAI and MPI which are well known for the hotel association in San Diego chapter. The event was elaborated in order to teaching the email etiquette and this was not only favorable to the hoteliers but also useful to the other occupations. The lecture was hold by Speaker Sue in the Hard Rock hotel. I set up the three goals in order to participating into the event more actively and wisely.
Speaker Sue - Email Etiquette
March 21, 2018
THREE GOALS
Goals at event
GOAL 1
Attain Professional Business Cards
The reason why I set this goal is to improve the networking and it also might helpful to reinforce my intercommunication skills. Furthermore, this association event was the great opportunity to enlarge the networking along with the people who are related to the hospitality industries. Therefore, I set up that receive at most 3 of the business cards through exchanging greetings with the experts. Fortunately, I could release anxiety by supporting from Christina Jeffries who is the one of the HTM director and she encouraged me to attain braveness to share the conversation with the many experts from the various industries. Thanks to her encouragement, I could receive the five business cards which I could gather more than I expected at most of the three business cards. This was the fantastic opportunity to attain the professional business cards at the professional events, which would be a fabulous experience that will help me when I give respect to the other business experts next time.
GOAL 2
Fully Understanding what speaker will talk about the "Email Etiquette"
Before I attend the event, I considered which competency that I would be able to improve through this professional participation, so I deliberated and decided to improve the optimism competency in order to listening carefully the Sue's lecture and understanding it perfectly. Indeed, I learnt a lot from Email Etiquette lecture such as BCC, which I had absolutely no idea what this abbreviation meaning, but now I know that this is not good email etiquette to collaborate with the colleges. Also, I learnt the interesting thing that using emojis in email is also the one of the way that express the emotions and Sue said this is one of the body language. Moreover, using bold font, italic, and underlines are allowed while writing the email, but Sue mentioned that be careful the use of color and must avoid to use red. Likewise, I could learn various things by the optimistic attitude to learn something.
GOAL 3
Watching closely how event is being prepared and proceeded
The of my curious was that how the Hard Rock hotel will set up that event and how they will proceed it step by step. Thus, I set up the goal to watch carefully that how the upper scale hotels like Hard Rock hotel plan the procedure of the association events. Before entering into the banquet, the associate members and the various hospitality experts had communicated to each other to share their business cards and the Hard Rock hotel offered the teas and juice to them. I thought this was an excellent service to the attendees to have the freshness and relaxation through having a tea and drink prior to the lecture. Moreover, I was amazed by their three-course lunch and it includes appetizer, main dish, and dessert. The Hard Rock hotel placed the course lunch ahead of the lecture, and it makes me to be pleasure with attending this event because the course was absolutely delicious, even more the servers were very kind full that they asked always the food allergies when they serve the plates. Furthermore, the setting of the tables were also appropriate to the size of the event, they used the square tables which could hold the at most 8 people to each table.
